The Kent County Chapter of the Soroptimist Club's "Women Helping Women" Award, 1998 Charmayne received this award for her outstanding work with Mothers Supporting Daughters with Breast Cancer, the national nonprofit organization she co-founded with her daughter Lillie, after Lillie's breast cancer diagnosis. To date, MSDBC has helped over 7,000 pairs of mothers and daughters cope with breast cancer and continues to receive requests from all over the world each day! 1999 Blue Cross Blue Shield Ageless Hero Award Charmayne S. Dierker was chosen as the 1999 Blue Cross Blue Shield Ageless Hero in the category of Community Involvement for her endless dedication to breast cancer survivors all over the world. The Ageless Hero Award is given to those age 65+ "who continue to achieve and inspire." Charmayne was one of over 6500 people nominated from across the nation! Susan G.Komen Award (Maryland Chapter) June 1999 Unsung Hero of Breast Cancer Charmayne's daughter Lillie has been selected by Upjohn & Pharmacia for this award and both will be featured in their 2001 calendar. ![]() ![]() Global Business Leadership Award, 1994 BMW Dealership Breast Cancer Survivor Hero Award, 1997 Portrait of Hope for Breast Cancer from the American Cancer Society, 1997 Graduate of Distinction for Lifetime Achievement Award, 1997 This award was given for Lillie's achievements personally and professionally during her lifetime. Though the award was intended for people to receive in their twilight years, she was bestowed this award for what she had already accomplished by the age of 43. The fact that she had published a book and had such an outstanding career made the difference. Recipient of two national awards from the National Consumer Health Information Center, 1998 for: 1) Excellence in patient education information on a website (The Johns Hopkins Breast Center website) 2) Excellence in providing a guide for decision making about a specific disease and its treatment. Intel's Internet Health Hero Award - for her work both professionally and personally in supporting women diagnosed breast cancer, May 1999 Susan G.Komen Award (Maryland Chapter) June 1999 Circle of Life Award from Shape Magazine and the National Race for the Cure, June 1999 One of only two national winners, Lillie was presented with this award for raising awareness about breast cancer by educating others, for her work with women who have breast cancer, and for volunteering her time to many breast cancer functions. American Cancer Society's With One Voice Award is from the Maryland Chapter in recognition of Lillie's volunteer work with breast cancer patients over the years. ![]() Support is provided in a variety of ways including one on one
support by mother
volunteers who have had firsthand experienced the trauma and challenges
of having a
daughter diagnosed with breast cancer, through distribution of a
mother's handbook and
daughter's companion brochure to provide guidance as to how a mother can
be
constructively helpful to her daughter during her breast cancer
treatment, and through
requests for education about the disease and its treatment when
questions arise related to
basic medical questions about this disease and how surgery and adjuvant
therapy work.
Medical consultation is not provided but responses to medical questions
that are general in
