Mothers Supporting Daughters with
Breast Cancer

MSDBC is a national nonprofit organization co-founded by a mother (Charmayne Dierker) and her daughter (Lillie Shockney) in March 1995. The support services provided by this organization are free and are designed to help mothers who have daughters battling breast cancer.

Support is provided in a variety of ways including one on one support by mother volunteers who have had firsthand experienced the trauma and challenges of having a daughter diagnosed with breast cancer, through distribution of a mother's handbook and daughter's companion brochure to provide guidance as to how a mother can be constructively helpful to her daughter during her breast cancer treatment, and through requests for education about the disease and its treatment when questions arise related to basic medical questions about this disease and how surgery and adjuvant therapy work. Medical consultation is not provided but responses to medical questions that are general in nature are appropriate.
